Job Title: Preschool Director at Sonshine Preschool, Sweetser, Indiana
Position Overview:
The Sonshine Preschool Director serves as the administrator of the preschool program at Sweetser Wesleyan Church. This role is responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring compliance with safety and training requirements, supporting staff, and maintaining a Christ-centered, nurturing learning environment for children and families.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Development or Elementary Education (may be waived with approval from the Preschool Board
  • Prior experience in early childhood education and/or leadership preferred
  • Strong understanding of child development and preschool programming
Core Responsibilities:
Administrative Leadership
  • Serve as the primary administrator of the preschool program
  • Ensure all employees maintain up-to-date background checks and child protection training
  • Attend monthly Preschool Board meetings and provide updates, reports, and recommendations
Curriculum & Program Development
  • Plan and develop a yearly curriculum based on board-approved concepts, with separate objectives for different age groups
  • Submit curriculum to the Preschool Board for approval
  • Assist teachers with daily lesson planning as needed during staff meetings
  • Establish a consistent daily schedule and refine it early in the school year
  • Ensure curriculum pacing allows for steady progress throughout the year
Staff Supervision & Development
  • Foster a positive, flexible, and collaborative work environment
  • Include staff in decision-making when appropriate and communicate the reasoning behind decisions
  • Delegate responsibilities effectively, including assigning teachers to student groups
  • Conduct staff meetings as needed to review curriculum, procedures, and address concerns
  • Evaluate each teacher annually and review evaluations with staff members
  • Refer unresolved staff issues to the Preschool Board
Student & Family Engagement
  • Develop and implement a consistent disciplinary policy with board approval
  • Communicate policies clearly to staff and review changes as needed
  • Provide end-of-year student evaluations based on teacher records and observations
  • Encourage and coordinate parent involvement in school activities, events, and field trips
  • Prepare and distribute a monthly newsletter to families
Operations & Financial Oversight
  • Purchase school supplies as needed from approved vendors
  • Submit receipts and reports of purchases to the treasurer
  • Seek board approval for major or non-routine expenses
  • Track and report mileage for reimbursement related to school purchases
Program Communication & Documentation
  • Compile and distribute a school handbook for families at Open House
  • Maintain organized records of curriculum, student progress, and program activities
Work Environment & Expectations:
The Preschool Director is expected to model professionalism, leadership, and a commitment to the mission of Sonshine Preschool and Sweetser Wesleyan Church. This role requires strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills, as well as a heart for working with children, families, and staff in a faith-based environment.

Salary Range:  $14,000-15,000/year
* This is a 12-month position at approximately 25 hours per week
